Wild Strawberry (Frageria Vesta) is a perennial plant which yields delicious, small red berries. They are great for growing in containers or baskets and if cared for properly will yield berries for many seasons to come. Three elements are important in starting and growing wild strawberries— temperature, water and light. Get them right and you will have the best chance for a bountiful harvest.
While you should follow the instructions that come with your product, here are some general directions and tips.
Planting Depth: 1/4" (6mm)
Germination Temperature: ~20 ̊C / 68°F
Germination Time: 14 - 42 Days
Cultivation Temperature:15-30 ̊C / 59-86°F
Time to Harvest: about 6 months.
How to Grow
1) Chose suitable environment. Wild Strawberry requires air temperatures between 65-75 F to sprout. Consistent warm temperatures with good air circulation and bright, indirect sunlight is best.
2) Moisten potting mix or coco fibre wafer.
3) Place seeds on top of surface of potting mix or wafer surface. Leave a little space between seeds. (Tip: save some of the seeds in the seed packet to use again if your first try fails). Light helps seeds germinate, so sure to cover seed with a light dusting of coco fiber or potting mix.
4) Water as directed being sure that the potting mix or coco fibre wafer do not dry out. Check moisture daily. Tip: sometime placing plastic wrap lightly over the pot will help retain moisture.
5) Keep the potting mix moist. Place the pot in bright, sunlite area, but avoid direct sunlight. Covering container with the plastic wrap is a good idea to avoid the potting soil from getting dry. Remove the plastic wrap once seeds start sprouting. Use a mist spray bottle to water them gently at the beginning of sprouting.6) After sprouting, place the container in an airy and bright place with morning or afternoon sun.
7) Check daily. Water if the potting mix is dry. But take care not to over water as there is no drain hole in container for excess water to run off.
8) After seedlings are established, thin out so the strong ones have more room to grow. When thinning out, gently pull out seedlings holding there base. Careful not to damage the remaining seedlings.
9) For the plants to fully mature, transplant plant to a large patio container or into the garden.
Carefully remove potting mix and plants from ceramic container in one scoop so as not to disturb plant roots, then plant into new location. Transplant into soil rich with organic matter (compost), well-drained and where there is some midday shade during the hot days of summer. Depending on climate and care, Wild Strawberry can take up to six months to bear fruit. It is a perennial meaning even if it does not yield much fruit in the first year, it will return next spring with more growth and berries.
PLEASE NOTE
Plant growth and results vary depending on care, pruning and environment such as water, temperature, time of year and climate. Please monitor water, temperature and light with care.
Growth requires sunlight or a grow light. Other light sources will not work.
While Noted's products are designed and assembled for growing success, not all seeds provided will germinate. This is part of nature! So when planting your seeds, you may wish to save some of the seeds to try again if germination fails.
